Alex has a big problem on his hands when his mother suddenly awakens eight months later. Her heart is so weak that anything shocking might kill her. And what could be more shocking than the fall of the Berlin Wall and the triumph; of capitalism in her beloved East Germany? To save his mother, Alex transforms the family apartment into an island of the past, a kind of socialist-era museum where his mother is lovingly duped into believing that nothing has changed. What begins as little white lie turns into a major scam as Alex's sister and selected neighbours are recruited to maintain the elaborate ruse and keep her believing that Lenin really did win after all!; ; Alex, 21 ans, jeune berlinois de l'Est, apprend la chute du Mur, alors que sa mère est dans le coma à la suite d'un infarctus. Les mois passent et le coma ne cède pas mais la ville se transforme. Au bout de huit mois, elle ouvre les yeux dans une ville qu'elle ne peut plus reconnaître ; Alex veut absolument lui éviter un choc brutal que son coeur affaibli ne pourrait supporter... et profitant de son alitement, avec l'aide de sa famille et de ses amis, il; reconstruit autour d'elle son univers familier, et s'efforce de faire revivre la RDA dans l'appartement, remis aux normes socialistes...
