Rigsby engages in an ongoing - and losing - battle of wits with university students and regular tenants Alan (Richard Beckinsale) and Philip (Don Warrington). In Series 3, new tenants include a flamboyant actor (Peter Bowles) and an exotic dancer, who test Rigsby's narrow mind and lecherous instincts. Early on, lovelorn Ruth (Frances de la Tour) returns to the house after a failed engagement, delighting Rigsby and cranking up the hilarity with his clumsy courting attempts and her refined rebuffs.
